Volunteers step up for FinCom
Both the School Committee and the Finance Committee were invited to the Board of Selectmen’s meeting held on Devens Tuesday, October 7.
Recently elected Town Moderator Bob Eubank introduced to the group seven townspeople who have expressed interest in serving on the Finance Committee: Collyn Bradley, Ed Murphy, Lori Granville, Paul VonLoesecke, Marie Fagan, Bob Thurston, and Debbie Ricci. Each candidate spoke for a few minutes about his or her background and interest in serving on FinCom. Eubank said that he will have a conversation with each of them in the next few days and make a selection by the end of next week. There are three openings, each for a three-year term.
Builder proposes housing on Ayer Road
During public comment time builder Lou Russo presented a proposal for a three-story building with 42 senior affordable rental units to be sited on land he owns on Ayer Road. He was seeking a letter of support from the selectmen to submit with his application for state funding. Selectman Tim Clark suggested that Russo be put on the agenda for the selectmen’s meeting of Oct. 21.
Energy advisors line up ducks for funding
Brian Smith presented an update from the Energy Advisory Committee. He said the group is still gathering baseline data on town-wide energy use and reviewing energy audits. The group is making a list of projects that can be matched up with grant funding when it becomes available.
Events scheduled for old library
Requests for use of the old library were granted. The Historical Society will hold its Holiday Arts Festival and Sale on Dec. 5 and 6; and three Girl Scout troops will use the building on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Appointments
Lisa Daigle of Still River Road was appointed to fill a two-year term on the Cultural Council, and Withington Lane resident Sue Tokay will serve on the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical Council.
