Supports Benson

October 24, 2008

I write to urge readers to vote for Jen Benson for state representative. I support Jen because she has the experience and the integrity essential to serving us effectively in the Legislature. Jen is currently chairwoman of the Lunenburg School Committee and is running for the 37th Middlesex District seat that Rep. Jamie Eldridge has held for six years.

You may remember that I served on the Acton Board of Selectmen before running for state representative and then state senator. I know that experience as a local elected official is invaluable training for anyone seeking higher office. An understanding of critical services like public education and public safety as well as the process of local decision-making such as town meetings is especially important in these tough budgetary times.

Jen was elected to the School Committee in 2003 when the commonwealth was going through a previous round of mid-year budget cuts. She worked to bring the town and the schools together in that difficult time and has helped the schools improve education while also promoting transparency and accountability. These skills will serve us well as the Legislature is forced to make tough budgetary decisions in the difficult years ahead.

Jen will use her local experience to work on strengthening the economy and creating jobs, improving our public schools, and protecting our environment. She has the energy, the enthusiasm, and the caring to serve the constituents of this community effectively. The 37th Middlesex District deserves a strong and effective voice on Beacon Hill. Please support Jen Benson for state representative on Nov. 4.

Pam Resor, state senator
