School calendar set
The proposed school calendar for the 2009–2010 school year for the elementary school and Bromfield was debated and voted on by the School Committee Monday night. The committee decided that the first day of the next school year will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, with Monday and Tuesday of that week planned as staff days. Veterans Day, Nov. 11, will be a holiday for students, but it will be a professional development day for faculty.
Bromfield administration would like to schedule parent–teacher conferences during the week of Thanksgiving. Other early closing dates will be finalized when professional development recommendations are made.
The committee debated whether to schedule school on Good Friday and Yom Kippur, and has tabled the vote until its next scheduled meeting on April 27. They encourage all parents to contact School Committee members if they have concerns and would like to weigh in on the decision to schedule classes on religious holidays.
The Christmas holiday will be Dec. 24, 2009, to Jan. 1, 2010. The winter vacation will be from Feb. 15 to 19 and spring vacation will be from April 19 to 23.
The tentative last day of school will be June 17, 2010, but if classes are scheduled on two of the religious holidays the last day of school will be June 15.
