Thanks for ‘Buckybus’

May 25, 2012

Saturday, May 19, was a memorable morning for a Buckingham bus load of friends bound for the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard. Most wore walking shoes and sun hats or scarves in order to participate in the “Just ‘Cause We Can Walk,” a 3.5-mile mini-walk to benefit an extraordinary local nonprofit serving those experiencing breast cancer. It was a stunning day—a verdant route—no bugs—and throngs of upbeat walkers! The money raised by the weekend’s walkers will keep the center’s doors open for clients and support breast cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital, too.

Special thanks go to Mr. Kim Buckingham, third generation in the family business, for driving and donating a comfortable, immaculate “Buckybus” motor coach in honor of his company’s centennial year of operation. It was fun and practical to be able to travel together as a large group from Groton. Among the riders were members of Groton Garden Club, First Parish Church of Groton, Groton School, and a book-reading group. Many memories and stories rode on that bus….
