Schools ‘are in terrific shape’
As a new school year began, interim Superintendent Joe Connelly told the School Committee, “The schools are in terrific shape.” He credited facilities manager Mark Force and his “most conscientious, hard-working team” for all they had accomplished over the summer.
Connelly and Force presented the committee with a two-page, single-spaced list of projects, the great majority of which were followed by a bright red “Completed.” The projects ranged from special items such as the tennis court lights and Bromfield alarm system that were approved at the Annual Town Meeting to routine but essential tasks like testing the fire alarms and kitchen fire suppression systems. Computer connections were installed, walls painted, old carpet ripped up, vinyl tile laid down, leaks fixed, and tanks pumped and tested.
School Committee chairman SusanMary Redinger called the results “outstanding.” She said, “The schools almost shine from top to bottom.”
Committee approves funds for next phase of technology plan
The three members of the School Committee who were present (SusanMary Redinger, Keith Cheveralls, and Patricia Wenger) voted unanimously to approve $30,472 for the fourth and final phase of the schools’ technology plan. Purchases planned for this phase include additional laptops for both Bromfield and Hildreth, desktops for the Bromfield Music Department, and “clickers” that allow all students in a class to respond individually in real time to teachers’ questions.
