Father of Harvard man, former Ayer teacher

Edward James Donahue, 83, of Westford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of 51 years of Margaret (Kavanagh) Donahue.

Ed was born in Ayer, Mass., on Sept. 1, 1929, son of the late George L. and Anna (Sullivan) Donahue. A graduate of Lawrence Academy, he later earned bachelor and masters degrees from Boston College. He was commissioned and served in the U.S. Navy after completing Officer Candidate School, and served during the Korean conflict. He previously acted as volunteer ambulance driver in Ayer. He owned a Chevrolet dealership for 35 years and taught in the Ayer public schools for many years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Edward and his wife Megan Donahue of Norfolk, Mass.; David Donahue of London, England; William and his wife Stacia Donahue of Harvard; Megan and her husband Thomas Michal of Westford;  and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Eric George Donahue.
