Beached

September 20, 2013

If the beach and its associated parking areas were a scarce resource before the changes of 2012,  they are even more so now.  Curiously, the “as built” design in Town Hall, initialed by a project engineer in May of this year, shows a dock for the crew team on the lagoon, eight racks for kayaks and canoes near the parking area, and two racks for crew adjacent to the boat ramp. Yet present arrangements bear little resemblance to the plan. A Parks and Rec commissioner called the setup unworkable this week, but the commission appears to be making every effort to accommodate the fall patrons of the beach.  It’s time for everyone to take a deep breath and work together in a “neighborly” way—to quote Commissioner Joe Schmidt—to find practical solutions until a better long-term arrangement can be found.
