Members of the Harvard Fire Department visited the Hildreth Elementary School last week to present its annual Student Awareness Fire Education—S.A.F.E.—program to kindergarten, first, and second grade students. Under the leadership of the department’s S.A.F.E. program coordinator, firefighter Kerra Huchowski, students learned about the role of firefighters as community helpers, and about smoke alarms, home escape plans, and the “stop, drop, and roll” procedure.
According to Harvard’s retired fire chief Peter Warren, firefighters were impressed and pleased with the knowledge the students had retained from previous years’ visits.
