This week police made 11 traffic stops that resulted in six citations, four verbal warnings, and one summons. Police also fielded one call about a road hazard. The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took seven people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support on board.
Tuesday, March 8
At 10:03 a.m. the caretaker at the Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road called to report three break-ins at the site (see story). Someone called at 12:11 p.m. to report that a utility truck was blocking the roadway on Pinnacle Road. Police asked the driver to move the vehicle.
Wednesday, March 9
After conducting a random license-plate check on Littleton County Road, an officer stopped a car at 7:09 a.m. and issued a summons to the driver, a 49-year-old Orange resident, for operating an unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended license. The car was towed. Boxborough police called at 2:02 p.m. to request assistance from Harvard officers at the scene of a traffic stop in their town. A bicyclist called at 2:15 p.m. with a complaint about a car traveling on Littleton Road that had gotten too close to the bike when passing it. Police located the vehicle and spoke with the driver about using extra caution around bicycles. A Tahanto Trail resident called at 4:55 p.m. to report that someone had removed the contents of some envelopes that had been delivered to the mailbox by the postal carrier. Police advised the caller to contact the bank and financial institution that had sent the mail to advise them of the potential for identify theft. A resident stopped at the station at 5:55 p.m. to report that someone had stolen a surveillance camera that was mounted 10 feet off the ground on Sheep Island. A Warren Avenue resident called at 8:23 p.m. to report a dog missing, but called again later to report the animal had been found.
Thursday, March 10
A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 4:42 p.m. to report that the family dog was missing, but called later to say that the animal had returned home.
Friday, March 11
The Harvard Fire Department and ambulance squad responded at 8:41 a.m. to an accident on Route 2 westbound near exit 38, where a car had gone off the road and into the woods. The ambulance took one person to the hospital; state police handled the accident scene. A Shaker Road resident called at 6:18 p.m. to speak with an officer about traffic speeding on that road.
Saturday, March 12
A Warren Avenue resident called at 12:56 p.m. to report that someone had broken into a car parked in his driveway sometime during the past day and removed some medication that was in the vehicle. The caller also said that items had been taken from a shed on his property on several occasions over the past year. At 9:52 p.m. firefighters were called to a home on Stow Road to extinguish a chimney fire.
Sunday, March 13
An officer on patrol at 1:05 a.m. noticed a large campfire burning behind a home on Mill Road and alerted the Fire Department. A fire officer arrived and informed the residents that the campfire was illegal because they had not secured a permit for it and advised them to extinguish it, which they did. At 5:26 a.m. an officer on patrol stopped to advise the occupants of a car parked at the Prospect Hill overlook that parking was not allowed there between dusk and dawn. The parties moved on. Bolton police called at 1:14 p.m. to report they had received a call about a very large brush fire in progress on East Bare Hill Road in Harvard. Harvard firefighters responded and battled the blaze, which, according to police, covered several acres. The fire was eventually extinguished.
Monday, March 14
At 2:55 a.m. an officer on patrol stopped at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111 in the center of town to remove several signs that someone had placed in the middle of the roadway. A motorist called at 8:09 a.m. to request help in getting a tow for his disabled vehicle on Stow Road. Acton police called at 5:56 p.m. to seek Harvard’s help in contacting a Harvard resident in connection with a case of illegal dumping in Acton.
