This week police made five traffic stops that resulted in one citation and four verbal warnings. They also responded to three calls about disabled vehicles. The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took four people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board. Seven people refused treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, June 21
An officer on patrol on Depot Road stopped at 8:50 a.m. to direct traffic around two Verizon trucks that were in a hazardous place on the road. The officer stayed until the crew completed its work.
Wednesday, June 22
At 4:16 p.m. Harvard officers joined Ayer police at the scene of a two-car accident on Ayer Road near the Ayer town line. Police say one car was exiting a parking lot onto Ayer Road when it struck a car heading north. The driver of the first car was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Both cars were towed; no injuries were reported. An officer on patrol stopped at the DPW grounds at 8:46 p.m. to speak with a person who was removing something from the Transfer Station, possibly sand. The officer informed the man that he was trespassing and advised him to speak with the DPW director the next day about procedures for accessing the area. A bicyclist called at 9:23 p.m. to report that a car had sped past him earlier on Bolton Road.
Thursday, June 23
A Lancaster County Road resident called at 2:52 p.m. to speak with an officer about someone’s having hacked his Facebook account. A motorist called at 9:36 p.m. to report driving behind a vehicle that had no license plates. Police did not locate the vehicle.
Friday, June 24
An Armstrong Road resident called at 9:18 a.m. with concerns about an unfamiliar man walking along the road. An officer located the man, who said he was on his way to Clinton. The officer gave him a ride to Cumberland Farms in Lancaster. An officer on patrol at 10:30 a.m. stopped to speak with a man using a metal detector and digging on the Common. The officer told the man that digging was not allowed there and advised him to move on. An Ann Lees Road resident called at 5:31 p.m. to report finding her basement door open. An officer checked the home but found nothing unusual. It was later discovered that her children had left the door open. A Myrick Lane resident called at 8:53 p.m. with concerns about two people on bicycles who were canvassing the neighborhood for donations. The cyclists were gone when police arrived.
Saturday, June 25
A Still River Road resident called at 12:42 a.m. to report that he had just returned home and found lights on in the house. An officer checked the home and reported that all appeared to be in order. It was then discovered that another family member was in the home and had left the lights on. Someone called at 11:01 a.m. to report a golden Lab running loose in the neighborhood on Old Shirley Road. The animal control officer was notified. At 3:41 p.m. a Wilroy Avenue resident called to speak with an officer about a matter that police say was part of an ongoing civil dispute between the caller and a neighbor in the Clinton Shores area.
Sunday, June 26
At 12:41 p.m. a caller reported a large pothole on Stow Road, near Codman Hill Road. Police say the hole was actually the start of a large sinkhole, and the road was closed for nearly four hours while the Department of Public Works repaired it.
Monday, June 27
At 8:20 a.m. a pet sitter called 911 to report hearing voices in the home where she was due to care for some animals. The officer who responded heard voices as well, but it turned out they were coming from a radio in the home. At 1:04 p.m. a caller reported a minor accident that took place in the Appleworks parking lot on Ayer Road, where a car accidentally struck another car that was parked there. Police say damage was minimal and no report was needed. Someone called at 3:11 p.m. to report a dead deer by the boat docks at the town beach. The DPW was notified to remove the carcass. A motorist called at 3:45 p.m. to report an earlier incident in which a vehicle had passed the caller’s car on Under Pin Hill Road. Someone called at 4:47 p.m. to report that a Honda was speeding on Ayer Road. The Honda was not in the area when police arrived.
