Info from the beach director
Harvard’s beach director, Alexandra Luck, has provided the following information for residents:
- The beach staff is composed of a head lifeguard who is an EMT with seven years’ beach experience, a head instructor with nine years’ experience, 12 highly trained instructors/lifeguards, 12 highly experienced water safety aides, and six new volunteers.
- Lessons for children start Friday, June 30, and will be held each weekday. There will be three two-week sessions: June 30 to July 14, July 15 to 30, and July 31 to Aug. 11. Register at harvardparkandrec.org.
- Lessons include water tots, learn to swim, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking.
- A valid beach sticker is required to park at the beach. Stickers, which cost $50, are sold at Town Hall and at the beach and must be affixed to the car’s bumper.
- Starting June 19 the beach will be staffed with lifeguards on duty from at least 1 to 5 p.m.
- No animals are allowed on the beach.
- Please use the walk/bike path, not the road, when traveling to and from the beach by foot or bike.
- For the safety of your equipment, please lock your boats on the racks and on the moorings. Also, take your paddles with you, as they create a tripping hazard.

Tom Denney Nature Camp expands camper eligibility
Tom Denney Nature Camp, Bolton Conservation Trust’s day camp on Harvard and Bolton’s Bowers Springs Conservation land, announces that children entering kindergarten may register for any week and that the Eco Adventures program is now open for incoming fifth- through ninth-graders. Campers register for one or two one-week sessions that begin Monday, July 10. Camp runs weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students entering ninth and 10th grades who are interested in being CITs may enroll and must be available for training July 5-7. Transfer Station stickers available
2017 Transfer Station stickers can be purchased at Town Hall during normal business hours, by mail by downloading the form and instructions at http://bit.ly/2rqpCLj, or online at https://unipay gold.unibank.com.
Fees are:
- Purchased prior to July 1, 2017: $250
- Purchased July 1-31, 2017: $275
- Purchased Aug. 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018: $305
- Seniors (age 65 or older): $35

You may have unclaimed money
There are Harvard names on the list of Massachuseetts citizens entitled to unclaimed funds. Visit the website of the Mass. state treasurer’s unclaimed property division, FindMassMoney.com, and search for your name.
Affordable housing info session
There will be an information session Tuesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at Volunteers Hall for all those interested in participating in the lottery for one of the nine affordable housing units at The Elms, 105 Stow Road. Six one-bedroom garden-style units and three two-bedroom townhome-style units will be located in three buildings on the four-acre site. Habitat for Humanity golf outing
Golfers are encouraged to participate in the Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts fourth annual golf tournament Tuesday, Sept. 19. The event will be held at Shaker Hills Country Club. All proceeds from the event will benefit Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachustts, bringing affordable housing to those in need throughout 25 towns in the region.
Interested golfers can sign up for foursomes at www.ncmhabitat.org/events/. The registration fee includes greens fee and cart, golf shirt, morning refreshments, lunch, and a swag bag of golf accessories and snacks. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m.; registration opens at 7:30 a.m.

Old T-shirts will be recycled
Rising Bromfield seniors Anya Bégué and Greer Jarvis are collecting old, worn, T-shirts as part of their senior project. There is a collection box in the Bromfield front office, and there will soon be similar boxes at the General Store, the library, and/or Town Hall. The T-shirts will ultimately be recycled into reusable bags.
Rowing lessons at Bare Hill Pond
Bare Hill Rowing Association offers youth and adult recreational rowing classes and opportunities for experienced resident scullers to access equipment and row on their own on Bare Hill Pond. All programs are taught in a fun and supportive environment with a goal of developing a safe and solid foundation of rowing skills. Find information at www.barehillrowing.com.
MWCC expanding its dental assisting program
Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner is expanding its Dental Assisting Certificate program for the coming school year by opening up enrollment for all students to this in-demand field.
“Because of the low supply of dental assistants, job security is good at this time,” said Dr. Michael Meyer, Dental Director for Community Health Connections. “There is constant evolution in the practice of dentistry resulting in ongoing opportunities for advancement in the field of dental assisting.”
A Certified Dental Assistant is an integral member of a dental healthcare team who typically assists the dentist during procedures. In addition, the dental assistant takes dental x-rays and dental impressions and performs various lab procedures.
Loaves & Fishes needs food donations
The mission of Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Devens is to provide nutritious food in an atmosphere of kindness and respect to individuals in need residing in Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton, and Shirley.
Donations of food and clothing are always welcome. The most needed food items are canned pasta, canned tuna, grape or strawberry jelly, pancake mix and pancake syrup, ketchup or mayonnaise, black beans or kidney beans, canned chili, canned tomato products, canned pineapple, cereal (no oatmeal), soap, laundry and dish detergent, diapers, pull-ups, Poise pads, feminine care products, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and tooth brushes, and Ensure.
