If you’ve driven to Groton recently, you may have noticed the welcome stones engraved with “Town of Groton, All Are Welcome, Town Meeting 2017.”
The welcome stones were approved at Groton’s Annual Town Meeting but soon faced opposition and an organized effort to remove “All Are” from the message. This issue that divided the town came to a head last month at Groton’s Special Town Meeting.
To tell the story behind the story, Groton Selectman Jack Petropoulos, with Groton Town Manager Mark Haddad, will present “Unexpected Divisiveness and Power of Kindness” at a coffee and conversation evening at the Congregational Church next Thursday at 7 p.m. sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
