On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Littleton varsity boys hockey team, composed of players from both Littleton and Harvard, lost 3-0 to the Lunenburg Blue Knights at the Groton School. Two nights later, the Tigers played the Worcester Eagles in a second home game at the Groton School, losing again, 1-0.
As of Feb. 4, Littleton had a 5-8-1 (2-2-0 league) record and was fourth in the five-team Coughlin Conference.
The Blue Knights, with a 7-8-0 record (4-2-0 league), are first in the Coughlin Conference. In Saturday’s game, Lunenburg’s Jason Brandy scored the first goal, assisted by Nathan Handy. The Blue Knights’ final two goals were scored toward the end of the third period. Gavin Cloutier scored the first with an assist from teammate Hunter Arsenault. The second goal was scored by Matthew Albert assisted by Brandy. Littleton goalie Ben Canfield had a total of 32 saves by the end of the game, while Lunenburg goalie Nick Granger had 22 saves.
The game against the Worcester Eagles ended with Littleton losing by just one goal. The Eagles have a record of 8-5-1 (1-2-1 league), and they are fourth in the Russell Conference. The only goal of the game was scored in the second period at the 10-minute mark by Lunenburg player Ben Smola, assisted by Matt Meola and Daniel Rafuse. Canfield had 21 saves and played for the entire game as did Josh Lemieux, the Eagles’ goalie, who had 19 saves.
Next up, Littleton faces off against Assabet on Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Navin Arena in Marlborough.
