Last week the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change confirmed what many of us have known for years (and our president refuses to believe): that we are, in fact, the cause of global warming. Sitting waiting for my wife, Pam, to come out of the market today I was struck by the fact that not one person (I counted about 35) came out carrying their purchase in their own bags. Maybe the Press can become a forum for people to suggest small ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint. In that spirit I am suggesting that we could help reduce the amount of plastic (and paper) we haul out of the stores by using our own canvas (or other reuseable) bags.
