Don’t meddle with success

July 6, 2007

There is a trivial saying ending with “keep your eye upon the doughnut and not upon the hole.”

The Finance Committee has been expertly staffed by a procedure now under fire to make it “more democratic.” The group proposing a “more democratic” procedure seems to have special interests in mind.

The present procedure has appointed a Finance Committee that has kept Harvard from becoming a Stoneham.

And the town auditor, who also serves on the Finance Committee, has uncovered missing town property and a special education transaction that certainly warrants a closer look.

The Finance Committee’s laudable performance is my “doughnut.” The move to “democratize” it is the “hole.”

In my opinion, “the Finance Committee ain’t broke, so don’t fix it!”
