Citizens’ petition

September 14, 2007

On behalf of everyone involved, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all residents who signed the citizens’ petition calling for a motion of censure on the Harvard School Committee.

All told, over a dozen citizens met and worked diligently throughout the summer refining the petition initiative. Subsequently, in less than three weeks of formally presenting the petition around town to residents, the same group succeeded in securing 248 validated signatures. Representation can be found across the entire spectrum of our community, be it as individuals, family groups, residents with and without kids in the schools, Bromfield graduates, and seniors, as well as the board volunteers and professionals that help make the entire town function.

All of this means that the petition will now appear, as written, on the warrant for Special Town Meeting as announced by the Board of Selectmen for Wednesday, October 10 in the evening. We urge all residents to attend Special Town Meeting to listen, participate, and ultimately to express their views.

Once again, and in recognition of all who have expressed their support, thanks for moving these issues out of the shadows and into the sunlight of candid and respectful dialogue at Special Town Meeting.
