Dennis M. Lyddy, a retired U.S. Army and Army Reserves master sergeant, is the town’s newly appointed veterans’ services agent. The selectmen unanimously appointed Lyddy last week after reviewing his qualifications at their August 28 meeting.
Lyddy, who lives in Leominster with his wife and three children, retired from the military in December 2003 after serving in Kuwait and Iraq, and in the military for more than 20 years. He completed veterans’ agent training in October 2006 and served as a volunteer assistant to Leominster’s veterans’ services director.
Lyddy will be available Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. at the Town Hall to assist eligible veterans, their widows, and their families receive local, state, or federal benefits. Additionally, Lyddy will facilitate applications for the state’s Welcome Home Bonus program, VA compensation and pensions, VA health care, and interment into either of the Massachusetts veterans cemeteries at Winchendon and Agawam. Veterans can also get a copy of their honorable discharge (DD-214) through Lyddy.
Lyddy can be reached at 978-870-7623 or at veterans_agent@harvard.ma.us.
