We were quite dismayed and angered to read about the treatment that Library Director Mary Wilson was subjected to by Board Chairman Leo Blair at the Library Trust meeting last week. While we understand that the town is under heavy financial pressure, the attack by Mr. Blair was totally uncalled for. Mary has done a wonderful job at the helm of the library and, in these difficult time, deserves a mountain of praise for her accomplishments. She is incredibly qualified, talented, dedicated, and hard-working, and to have her browbeaten by a town selectman and have her honesty questioned is beyond belief. Mr. Blair’s confrontational manner is unprofessional, nonproductive, and purely mean-spirited. A few months ago his uncontrolled outbursts resulted in his apologies and offer to resign. The resignation was rejected by the rest of the board—maybe they should rethink the offer.
