The Bromfield girls track team won six events, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Trojans finished second to Lunenburg at the Midland Wachusett League championships on May 19.
Lunenburg was 100 points ahead of Bromfield after the field events, and was on its way to scoring 219 points to the Trojans’ 143. Oakmont finished a distant third with 68 points.
Senior Emily Jones was first in the mile and 800-meter run, while sophomores Emma Rothkopf and Mimi Narbonne won the 2-mile and the 400 meters, respectively. Bromfield also won the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay, and was second in the 4×100-meter relay by two-tenths of a second.
The team had a total of eight second-place finishes and three thirds. Outstanding second-place performances were turned in by Alyssa Johnson (eighth grade) in the 200 meters, Kim West (10th grade) in the 400-meter, Alyssa Swindells (ninth grade) in the 2-mile, and Alexia Lipman (seventh grade) in the mile.
“The girls did great,” said coach Ray Dunn, “There were several personal records run at the meet. Our ability to score was affected by some injuries we had over the last two weeks, but the girls ran hard and I was very proud of our effort.”
