Imagine: There is a peaceful lot next door, there ever since you purchased your home. Due to a new zoning plan for that lot a homeowner is allowed to build a 10-story home right on your shared lot line.
Imagine: The home is built. Then the new neighbor runs three to four high-pitched leaf blowers 24 hours a day. You are up all night listening to the noise.
Imagine: The home is a business that gets 18-wheeler truck deliveries that bang and whine for hours while the delivery is being made.
What would you do? How would you feel about that? This is what our Old Mill Road neighbors have been living with every day since Evergreen Solar was built on Devens.
We urge residents to support the selectmen’s effort to work with the Devens Enterprise Commission to resolve these noise issues for our Old Mill Road neighbors and make a firm commitment to enforce the DEC noise-pollution bylaws for all of us.
More commercial development is scheduled to be built in Devens. Next time it might not just impact the directly abutting neighbors. It might impact all of us. Residents can go the DEC website to become informed. Better yet, they can go to the DEC meeting on June 30 at 6:45 p.m. to get the facts and information on just what is happening right next door. Let’s support our noise-polluted friends, neighbors, and fellow townsfolk.
