Townspeople in Ayer failed to vote for the Vicksburg Square plan developed by the Joint Boards of Selectmen, perceiving that it was a poor plan. Chapter 498 saved Vicksburg Square and the community. JBOS now has the opportunity to develop a new plan that includes a planner of reputation, an architect, and citizen input. Any action by JBOS to modify or change Ch. 498 without real citizen approval defeats the protection now in the law—town vote. If JBOS persists in changing Ch. 498, citizens can wisely inform our legislators of our displeasure.
