Two students from Harvard, junior Peter Taylor and freshman Jack Michaels, joined their Lawrence Academy Spartans teammates in celebrating a 41–12 victory over the previously unbeaten Wildcats of Kimball Union Academy in the Samson-Lorden Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 21, to cap a 9–0 football season.
Taylor, who set the edge as a defensive end, had seven sacks and 32 tackles and provided blocking as a fullback. The Independent Student League (ISL) recognized his performance with an honorable mention for the season. The son of Mike and Lamia Taylor, he also earned academic high honors for the fall term.
Michaels, the Spartans’ only starting freshman, received the team’s second annual Mark F. Frattaroli Football Award, an honor reserved for a new player who shows a positive spirit and commitment to the highest standards of sportsmanship. Michaels provided outstanding defensive line play in every game, including the ISL and New England championship games. An honors student, Jack is the son of Anne Marie and Jason Michaels.
Coached by Harvard’s Mike Taylor, the Spartans bested their opponents by a wide margin in their 2009 campaign, 389–71, scoring 41 or more points seven times.
