The Salvation Army thanks everyone in Harvard who gave so generously to its Haiti disaster relief fund. Your gifts at the post office, the dump, the polls, and the General Store totaled $4,089.21 in less than a week. Those funds are already at work.
We’re grateful also to those who so quickly answered our call for volunteers: Terri and Bob Neville and family, Melissa Marteney, Phil Knoettner, Sy Brule, and Kirsten Wright.
The Salvation Army has had an ongoing presence in Haiti since 1950; a staff of 700 was already in place, operating a medical clinic, feeding facilities, a hospital, and a school for 1,500 children. The Christmas kettle drive covers all “overhead.” With this established infrastructure, 100 percent of the gifts being welcomed are dedicated to earthquake disaster relief for Haiti. Our counter kettle at the General Store is an ongoing and convenient collecting point for cash, coins, or a check to the Salvation Army marked “Haiti earthquake.” Again, many thanks.
