The School Committee and the Harvard Teachers Association are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached on the terms of a three-year contract for the school years 2011-2014.
The new agreement provides for the usual step and column increases and also provides COLA increases (cost-of-living adjustments) of 1 percent, 2 percent and 2 percent for the respective three years.
The School Committee and the Harvard Teachers Association engaged in professional and respectful dialogue throughout the process, which was essential to allowing the group to come to an agreement in these challenging financial times. Both groups took the time to recognize each other’s points of view and keep the focus on teaching, learning and improving the climate within the schools.
We wish to express our appreciation to Finance Director Lorraine Leonard and School Counsel Naomi Stonberg for their advice and guidance in negotiating the terms agreed upon. We would also like to thank Superintendent of Schools Thomas Jefferson for his assistance in identifying and formulating options allowing for a successful and timely settlement of the contract.
This negotiation process was truly a team effort from both sides to reach a fiscally responsible agreement that moves us forward to continue to maintain and improve the standards of excellence which we strive for in our schools.
