Harvard resident Lizzie Douglas, a rising junior history major at Haverford College in Haverford, Penn., will spend this summer working with the Women’s Law Project in Philadelphia, an organization that works to eliminate gender discrimination in laws and institutions and promote changes in the legal system that will improve the status and opportunities of women and their families.
During her internship, she will be working as a telephone counselor and intake person with the project’s Telephone Counseling and Consumer Education Service. Douglas was attracted to the organization because of her interests in connecting law and social justice.
Douglas is working under the auspices of Haverford College’s Center for Peace and Global Citizenship. She is one of more than 60 students who received stipends from the Center, allowing them to work on projects in the U.S. or abroad in areas related to peacemaking and peace building, as well as to social, political, economic, and governmental challenges.
