Five Bromfield students were among the winners in the recent Boston Globe Scholastic Art Competition, conducted nationally by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, Inc. Their work was selected from among more than 14,000 individual images by over 6,500 individual students, according to an announcement from the program’s directors.
Seniors Hannah Keaney and Nicholaus Kronauer both won Gold Keys for their senior art portfolios. Eighth grader James O’Shea’s drawing “The Girl” won a Silver Key. Honorable mentions went to senior Scott Blackwell for a ceramic dragon head and to junior Jared Gallivan for his drawing “Empty.”
Seniors may enter a portfolio of 12 to 20 pieces of their choosing. Kronauer, who has been accepted to the five-year architecture program at Syracuse University, submitted photographs and ceramic pieces. He said that being chosen by For Arts Sake to exhibit his work last summer kept him encouraged.
Keaney said her portfolio was primarily ceramic work that she completed at Bromfield and at a private studio. She intends to major in art after graduation.
Gold and Silver Key entries will be exhibited at the Massachusetts State Transportation Building at 10 Park Plaza in Boston from Feb. 13 through April 20.
