The Bromfield Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA), with support from a grant from the Harvard Schools Trust, will present “In Our Family,” a touring photo exhibit that celebrates the diversity of family life. Bromfield’s photography club will also assist with the event. The exhibit will open with a community reception on Friday, April 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Photos and accompanying text will be displayed in the Courtyard Gallery, located between the computer graphics room and the gym, just below the library. Featured speakers at the reception will be the co-founders of the Bromfield GSA, Eric Delisle and Alix Epstein, both graduates of the class of 2000. They will begin their talk at 6:15 p.m. in the Bromfield library. Light refreshments will be served.
“In Our Family” includes photographs of and excerpts of interviews with gay and lesbian-parented families, single-parent families, families living with physical or mental challenges, adoptive families, divorced families, step-families, multi-racial families, multi-generational families, and many others. Created by the award-winning Family Diversity Projects, “In Our Family” travels nationwide to schools, colleges, public libraries, places of worship, and museums. “In Our Family” will be on display at Bromfield through May 1. In addition to the opening reception, the community is encouraged to see the exhibit during the April 10 choral concert, the April 30 Community Service open house, and the May 1 Bromfield Review coffeehouse. After May 1, the exhibit will be transferred to the Hildreth Elmentary School and will be on display there from May 6 to May 13. It will include the same photographs, but the accompanying interview summaries will be written in a style geared for younger children.
