Whitney Road resident Elsie Shutt was featured in the Oct. 17 episode of “Planet Money” on National Public Radio. The episode is about the phenomenon of women in computer science—how their numbers grew for decades in the early years and then decreased dramatically starting in the mid-1980s.
Shutt founded Comp Inc., one of the first software businesses in the United States, in 1958, and the programmers were all female.
