Laughter and whimsy filled the air Friday night as the town Common was taken over by zombies, princesses, villains, super heroes, and every other character imaginable. Also clearly palpable was the closeness and pride of community that embodies Harvard. It was a wonderful evening of camaraderie for friends and neighbors of all ages.
We owe a big thanks to those members of our community whose efforts made this year’s festivities such a huge success. The Lions Club once again generously served up complimentary refreshments and created a welcoming gathering place for us to converse, connect, and view the parade of costumes. The entire police department, Chief Denmark as well as our officers and dispatchers, supervised the total event from screening and organizing candy donations to ensuring we had a safe and comfortable environment for the festivities.
Sincere gratitude must be given to the many residents of the Common and surrounding neighborhood who so graciously opened their doors, donned costumes, and decorated their homes to the delight of our trick-or-treaters. This wonderful tradition would not exist without their support. Thanks are also due to the Bromfield students who donated their time to assist these homeowners with handing out candy and the many town residents who donated treats for the evening. Kudos are also owed to The Center on the Common for their creative entertainment and to the Congregational Church for hosting a haunted house to benefit Loaves and Fishes.
Harvard’s annual Halloween block party is a wonderful community event that all of our children eagerly look forward to and one that continues to create lasting memories for all of us.
