Your May 27 edition of the Harvard Press had a story “Memorial Day 2016: Honoring six of Harvard’s own” written by Joan Eliyesil. I believe this was one of the finest articles written in the Harvard Press in recent memory. Joan, with the help of many including the Harvard Historical Society, provided a thorough review of Harvard’s citizens who gave the supreme sacrifice.
Talking with Joan, I learned she spent over one year preparing this article. My sincere thanks to her for her tedious effort to learn about and report on these great citizens.
On a side note, there used to be a WW II memorial with a list of all who served our country. This memorial used to be on the Common. I know former Veterans’ Agent Dennis Lyddy and Don Green have searched high and low for it. There is a picture of the memorial, and, though doubtful, if any citizen could give a clue as to what happened to this memorial it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise it is time for the town to step up to the plate and re-create this memorial.
Again, thank you, Joan Eliyesil, for a wonderful article.
