Press release submitted by Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School

Officials from Fidelity Bank presented Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School with the first of five $3,000 donations to support the school’s new veterinary science program.

In an effort to provide additional career and educational opportunities for students, Monty Tech is currently building a 7,500 square-foot veterinary science training center on its property. When completed, the center will include classrooms, a laboratory and a full-service clinic where low-income families in the Monty Tech district will be able to receive veterinary care at a reduced cost.

Monty Tech teachers and students from the school’s building trades programs are doing all the construction. All costs for construction materials will be covered through donations, grants, and in-kind matches, and will not have an impact on member communities’ assessments.

“We are fortunate to have talented students and instructors building this state-of-the-art facility, saving the district more than $1 million is labor costs. All other costs associated with the construction efforts have been raised through targeted fundraising efforts, resulting in more than $1 million in donations,” said Dr. Sheila M. Harrity, Monty Tech Superintendent-Director. Fundraising efforts are ongoing, she added, with a number of potential donations pending.

“We are very grateful for Fidelity Bank’s generous donation,” said Dr. Sheila M. Harrity. “It has been the support of local businesses, such as Fidelity that will make this program possible.”

Students will be accepted into the new program starting in the fall.
