Harvard resident Dr. Piali De was contacted by the Leonard Nimoy (Spock from “Star Trek”) family about her artificial intelligence invention that helps people battling COPD manage their illness from home, reducing the times they would need to go to the hospital for help. Her company, Senscio Systems, will be highlighted at the Boston premiere screening of a documentary produced by Leonard Nimoy’s daughter, Julie Nimoy.
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is an umbrella term used to describe progressive lung diseases including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, refractory (nonreversible) asthma, and some forms of bronchiectasis. This disease is characterized by increasing breathlessness. It was Leonard Nimoy’s dying wish to create awareness for the disease and to warn people about the dangers of smoking.
