Police made 27 motor vehicle stops in the past week; 18 resulted in verbal warnings, and nine in written warnings or citations. Officers also issued or renewed a firearm license and dealt with two disabled vehicles. They received one call about someone locked out of a car but were unable to assist the person. The Ambulance Service was called to six medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support services in attendance.
Tuesday, May 17
At 7:53 a.m. someone called from a business on Littleton County Road to report a case of fraud involving a duplicated check from the business. The case was referred to Boxborough police because the business is located there; only the driveway is in Harvard. At 2:18 p.m. an officer noticed a car at the Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road and told the occupants they were trespassing.
Wednesday, May 18
At 4:21 p.m. someone who had gone for a walk in the woods after parking at Bellevue Cemetery returned to find their car window smashed. Police are checking to see if the damage could have resulted accidentally from mowing at the cemetery or if it was vandalism.
Thursday, May 19
At 5:31 p.m. a rollover crash on Route 2 eastbound brought out the Harvard Fire Department and Ambulance Service; two people were taken to hospitals.
Friday, May 20
At 7:33 a.m. a teacher called to let police know that some cars with trailers or boats were parked in the student parking area at the Bromfield School; an officer ticketed the illegally parked cars. At 5:24 p.m. two cars collided at the intersection of Slough Road and Mass. Ave. No one was injured, but one driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way; one car needed a tow, and an officer gave the driver a lift home. At 8:33 p.m. Stow police called Harvard police for assistance at the Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow, where the Bromfield prom was being held. Police say they deferred the problems to the school administrators and parents for followup.
Saturday, May 21
At 9:07 a.m. a Stow Road resident called to say someone’s car had hit the mailbox. At 4:16 p.m. a 911 caller reported a minor collision in a parking lot in town center.
Sunday, May 22
At 2:55 p.m. an officer pulled over a car on Ayer Road for failure to obey a stop sign, only to find the 43-year-old Leominster resident was driving without a license; the driver received a summons and the car was towed. At 5:42 p.m. a car struck a building on Ayer Road, and the Jaws of Life were needed to free the driver, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital. The building was damaged badly enough that the building inspector came to assess its structural safety.
Monday, May 23
At 7:24 a.m. a 911 caller told police of a crash on Route 2 eastbound, but no one accepted ambulance transport. At 8:21 a.m. an officer cleared a fallen tree branch off Mass. Ave.
