The sound quality was better at last Saturday’s Town Meeting than it was in either October 2022 or February 2023, but it still wasn’t good enough. The underlying principle of Town Meeting is that we come together to discuss with our neighbors how to run the town—which means that everyone in the audience needs to be able to hear everything that is being said. The audio system didn’t achieve that on Saturday.
The town should take the burden off the moderator and volunteers and hire a company to ensure that we have a working, reliable sound system for every Town Meeting—or, in the future, we could hire an audio-visual company so that warrant articles, maps, etc. can be projected. The town hired an audio company when Town Meeting was held outdoors during the pandemic.
We already hold Town Meeting in a space accessible to those who use different mobility aids; we need to ensure that the sound system also allows every single person to hear the discussion and to voice their opinions.
