Talented fiber artist, gardener, environmentalist

Margaret Forster Snyder, 75, of Harvard, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at Emerson Hospital. Born Feb. 16, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Janet (Fitkin) Forster. She was a loving wife to George Snyder, to whom she had been married for 50 years.
Margaret was a talented fiber artist working mostly from home. She graduated from Whitmer Senior High School in Toledo in 1966, and from the School of Fashion Design in Boston in 1969. She started work in the fashion industry and later switched to creating wallpaper designs. She spent the last 30 years doing machine knitting for an art-to-wear fashion designer.
An avid collector of cookbooks, mystery stories, art fashion books, character dolls, and vintage sewing patterns, Margaret loved making doll clothes and costumes, and served for a time as secretary of the Yankee Doodle Dollers Club. She was an enthusiastic gardener, providing most of the vegetables on the family table. She enjoyed watching songbirds, turkeys, and other wildlife in the backyard, and was a steadfast environmentalist.
Margaret is survived by her husband, George; her sister, Carol Latchuk, and husband Dave of Mansfield, Ohio; her brother, Mark Forster of Toledo; and by her cousins, Susan Wood of Albany, New York, and Cathy Wood of St. Louis, Missouri. Her family and friends will sorely miss her.
A private graveside service will be held at Bellevue Cemetery in Harvard. A memorial service to celebrate her life is being planned for a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or other institutions working against pancreatic cancer.
