Ludwig violated code he agreed to in joining the Select Board

March 14, 2025

First of all, I completely agree with the Select Board’s Feb. 25 statement requesting that Don Ludwig resign from the board for his having posted hateful comments.

Without any question, Don Ludwig’s social media posts did not “represent the entire community of Harvard at all times” as per the Select Board’s “Policy and Procedures.” I think that his position as chair of the board magnified his misrepresentation of our town, and for him to remain on the board would continue to do so.

Regarding Mr. Ludwig’s free speech defense, I am not saying that he cannot share his beliefs. I am just saying it violated a rule that he agreed to, at the expense of the town he represents.

I would have hoped that Mr. Ludwig would have offered a robust defense for degrading the groups in his posts rather than having retreated in a heat-of-the-moment defense. It is really sad that sharing disrespect for others has become more prevalent.

Finally, I want to publicly thank Colleen Pearce for having the courage to stand up in defense of our town. I also want to thank the board for fielding any potential bias and for protecting the integrity of the board.
