I am delighted to have the opportunity to express my support for Sarah Saleh’s candidacy for library trustee. Sarah is exactly the sort of citizen volunteer Harvard needs and relies upon, and she brings skills and habits of mind that situate her to be an effective, collaborative, and deeply impactful trustee.
In 2016, when I was a new resident in town, I excitedly took my family to the farmer’s market, which was then held in the front lot of the old Hildreth Elementary school. By the brightly painted HES sign, a friendly woman with two kids struck up a conversation with me, and I remember thinking how right we’d been to move to this community. That woman was Sarah Saleh, and in the nine years since, I have been continually impressed by the depth of her warmth, commitment, and deeply skillful engagement in our community. I’ve also had many a good conversation about books with her, and sat across from her at countless library events.
Trained as an engineer, Sarah has an attention to detail paired with an ability to see the big picture that is uncommon. I think it is this background, too, that makes her unwilling to just identify a problem or issue without also investigating and developing potential actions to address it. She is also one of those rare people who is able to hold complex and conflicting ideas in mind at once, seeking understanding and a road forward that benefits all.
On top of all of that, Sarah loves and is deeply engaged with our library and its programming. I can think of no one better suited, in terms of personality, skills, interests and values, to serve as library trustee.
