In support of the school budget

April 25, 2025

I am writing in strong support of passing both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 budget overrides. Passing only the Tier 1 override is not enough. This funding is essential for maintaining the high-quality education our children deserve. Without it, we risk losing excellent and qualified teachers, staff, and administrators who have dedicated themselves to our students’ success.

If both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 overrides do not pass, the school district will face a staggering $955,112 in cuts, which will directly impact educational services and the staff that support our students. These cuts would result in significant reductions to educational programs, and the elimination of the equivalent of 11.5 full-time personnel. Because of this, class sizes could increase, which would significantly impact the quality of education our children receive. Smaller class sizes are proven to be better for students, offering more individual attention and fostering a more supportive learning environment. In larger classes, teachers are stretched thin, making it harder to address the unique needs of each student, especially those who require additional help or challenge.

Passing both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 overrides is the only way to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to continue offering the personalized, high-quality education that sets our community apart. It is so important to vote “yes” for Harvard, and support both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 overrides for the benefit of our children, our educators, and the future of our community.
