My name is Molly Waring and I ask for your vote for library trustee.
I am running because I love public libraries and the Harvard Public Library in particular. Public libraries provide free access to information and resources and a place for community members of all ages to gather and connect. In the almost 10 years we’ve lived in Harvard, I can’t remember a week in which the Waring/Frantzdale family didn’t have physical and/or electronic resources checked out of the HPL.
The current federal administration has put many of our public-serving institutions, agencies, and programs on the chopping block. While our library is well-positioned to weather some of these cuts, economic impacts will ripple through states and then towns. I offer skills such as grant writing, survey design and analytics, and creative problem-solving from my 15+ years as an epidemiologist and health researcher to help the HPL understand and then meet the evolving needs of our community. I am committed to supporting the HPL to continue to live up to its mission and social justice statement.
I was delighted to see that I am not the only candidate running for library trustee. Last week at the candidates forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Harvard Press, I had the pleasure of hearing the other candidates—Stacie Cassat Green, Sarah Saleh, and Rebecca Miller Brown—share their vision and priorities for the HPL for the next three years. It is clear to me that all four of us deeply care about our library and its vital role in our community, and would be an asset to the HPL and our town in this role. Stacie also brings important experience and knowledge from her 10+ years as a library trustee. Today more than ever, we need civic engagement at all levels of government. While I ask you to vote for me for library trustee, more importantly, I ask you to vote, period.
