The League of Women Voters of Harvard supports a “yes” vote on both Tier 1 and Tier 2 of this year’s override in order to support the full budgets of all town departments. “Yes” votes on both tiers will ensure that all departments function at level service in fiscal 2026, and is consistent with the Finance Committee’s recommendation of the full budget to the Select Board.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization but we do take positions on critical issues facing us on a national, state, and local basis. We support an intelligible, constructive town budgetary process that will recognize priorities and the need for adequate funding of agreed-upon essential services.
A longer term study and resolution of the structural problems that have put Harvard and many other towns in the commonwealth in a cycle of yearly budget overrides is clearly needed.
