Attend Sept. 27 Town Meeting, oppose spending for athletic fields

August 29, 2025

I thank Mr. Yu for his letter to the editor on Aug. 22. I had no idea of the Special Town Meeting until reading the letter. This issue raises some important questions:

How can the sports field purchase be removed from the agenda? Is there a process to get enough voters to have it squashed as it has already been decided?

If the purchase of the soccer fields that were voted down by the townspeople can be revisited, can the override that was approved by the townspeople in the same meeting be rescinded?

Please ask your neighbors to attend the Sept. 27 Special Town Meeting. There needs to be a large turnout to regain control of the town’s purse. Not everyone in the town of Harvard has unlimited resources. Many are on fixed incomes or have not had a pay raise for years. The override was approved based on the claim of a budget shortfall. If there is suddenly more money or the claim was false, the override should be returned to the taxpayers and the will of the people not to purchase more fields be respected.
