The articles regarding the deficits and capital requests in the Oct. 24 edition were interesting.
Nowhere in the article was wasteful spending mentioned, or money spent on things that do not benefit the entire community, such as the athletic fields that were voted down in the spring town meeting.
The residents that attended the special meeting in September made it clear that the athletic field was more important than the Police and Fire departments’ needs.
Many of us pointed this fact out during the Special Town Meeting, but the less than 10% of the town population that came out to vote took money that could have been used to purchase equipment for our first responders that benefits everyone in the community and instead spent it on an athletic field which will only be used by a small segment of the community.
We hope the Harvard Press points this fact out at the next request for an override.
