O’Leary to run in Boston Marathon

January 12, 2017

James O’Leary of Candleberry Lane will be running the 2017 Boston Marathon to support The Children’s Room, the leading nonprofit bereavement organization in Massachusetts dedicated to creating safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone.

“Each year our marathon team plays a crucial role in raising much-needed funds to support TCR’s programs and services for grieving children, teens, and families,” said TCR Executive Director Donna Smith Sharff. “It is a true testament to James’ connection and commitment to our organization that he is willing to devote himself to this endeavor, and we are thankful for his efforts on our behalf.”

O’Leary runs in memory of his mom and in honor of his dad. “I had a good family circle,” O’Leary said. “I had a good group of friends from church. But it wasn’t until I was invited to a high school support group of kids who had lost a parent that I began to feel safe and to vocalize the feelings which I was experiencing about my mother’s death. This is why I’ve chosen to run the Boston Marathon for The Children’s Room.” To support O’Leary, go to www.crowdrise.com/ChildrensRoomBoston2017/fundraiser/thechildrensroom.
