Use old library to better serve Harvard’s children

December 8, 2016

Regarding future use of the old library, both sides have valid points. Harvard surely would benefit from a vibrant community arts center. However, meeting the educational needs our children is essential. The chance to keep our children with special needs right here within walking distance from friends, family, events, library, athletics, and more should be embraced. We bus our most vulnerable children to other towns. This has a social and emotional toll that must not be underestimated. Coping with a disability of any kind can be difficult, and lonely. Ask any parent. I support the use of the old library to better serve Harvard’s children—consistent with its history, with all it has meant to so many generations. And please, let’s find a great site for a community arts center, too.
