Monday night was a typical Harvard Halloween and that was exactly what made it so great! A crisp autumn night hinting that winter is just around the corner. The enticing smell of popcorn and hot dogs floating over the Common while the excited sounds of laughter and neighborly chatter fill the chilled air. Families, adults, children, and friends all mingling, admiring the creativity of costumes and decorations, sharing stories of years past and ideas for the future. All this and more are the familiar signs and sounds that go hand in hand with Halloween in Harvard.
A most heartfelt thanks is owed to all of the generous, thoughtful people who help make Halloween in Harvard a fun and memorable event for all ages. First and foremost, thank you to all of our neighbors residing on and around the Common whose graciousness and amazing creativity make trick-or-treating not only possible, but a much anticipated annual event.
Our Halloween festivities would not be possible if it were not for the tremendous support and efforts of the Harvard Police Department. In the weeks leading up to the holiday, Pat Natoli and Trish Rouvel organize and manage all of the candy donations that are collected for distribution and have been graciously doing this for many years. Chief Denmark and his officers are ever present, ensuring our safety and enhancing our enjoyment of the festivities, even playing the Ghostbusters theme song from the patrolling cruisers.
Year after year, the inviting gathering spot and complimentary refreshments offered by the Lions Club is a testament to their generosity and commitment to our community. In addition, the ingenuity and talent highlighted at the Congregational Church’s haunted house enhanced the night’s festivities, adding to the fun of participants and to benefit Loaves & Fishes. In addition, the assistance of Bromfield National Honor Society students was greatly appreciated as it enabled those homeowners hosting trick-or-treaters to also participate in the events of the evening.
I love Halloween in Harvard, and this year was no exception. Thank you to all involved for your amazing efforts and talent. Most of all, thank you for caring so much and making this another memorable year for all of us.
