I thank the Harvard citizens who have eloquently voiced their reasons for Don Ludwig to remove himself from the Harvard Select Board. And also to those who more recently—in this column—shared their dismay that he has thus far not vacated his seat as a board member, after being censured for violating the board’s code of conduct.
I support these efforts to hold Mr. Ludwig accountable and remind him of consequential outcomes for amplifying and spreading hate speech on social media while he was chair of the board. His statements were clearly put out there to dehumanize and devalue targeted groups: women, Black people, gay people.
I have lived quietly in this gracious town for almost 30 years. But this issue beckons me to speak up as this can’t be normalized here in Harvard. Or can it?
