Join us!

As a community newspaper that’s self-funded and independent of any chain or outside owners, the Press shares the attributes of many other organizations in town. Like town boards, committees, and other volunteer groups, we rely on Harvard’s abundant local talent to write and produce the news, features, photos, goings-on, and ads that appear each week in our publication. We’re a bit of a collaborative, a group of veterans and amateurs who share a passion for community journalism and a desire to hone our skills as reporters and writers while providing our subscribers with the information they need to fully participate in their community.

We’re always looking for new members—reporters, feature writers, columnists, editors, and photographers— and as we get back to work following our summer hiatus, we invite you to join us. No previous newspaper experience is needed, though it’s always welcome. All that we require of new recruits is an itch to report and write about our town government and community, and a desire to learn more and develop your knowledge and skills. We’ll learn the rest together.

We’ll ask you to commit a few hours each week to attending board meetings and community events, doing research or interviewing sources, and then writing about them. We meet every Thursday morning to review our previous week’s work, discuss some aspect of reporting or writing, and plan our future issues. And we do pay—modestly—for the work that we publish.

To learn more, please write to editor@harvardpress.net. Tell us about your background and interests and why you’d like to join our crew. We’d like to hear from you.
