Wittenberg announces run for Select Board

February 7, 2025

I am excited to announce my candidacy for Select Board and respectfully ask for your support.

I was drawn to Harvard in search of space, quiet, and community, away from the hustle and bustle. Since arriving in 2017, I’ve been overwhelmingly impressed by the vibrancy of the town, from boisterous Town Meeting debates to animated coffee chats among neighbors at the General Store and energetic elbowing at the annual plant sale. I love being part of such an engaged and committed community, always ready to come together, argue respectfully, and support one another regardless of our differences.

I have served on the Conservation Commission since 2020, as chair for the past two years. I have learned the ins and outs of town governance, partnerships among town committees and boards, and relationships with state agencies. I have worked with subcommittees, private entities in town, engineers and consultants, and all of you—my neighbors and fellow residents. This experience has given me invaluable insight into the town’s issues, priorities, and challenges. It has also taught me what we collectively care about and value, and how this factors into our decisions. Our precious resources are what make Harvard, Harvard—our schools, our orchards and farms, our natural beauty and open space, our picturesque town center and houses of worship, and most importantly, our residents of many backgrounds, ages, and perspectives.

I can contribute clear-headed thinking and balanced approaches to our decision making, along with thoughtful, reasoned, and compassionate leadership. My experience with land use will serve me well, and my knowledge of issues and concerns will inform my perspective. I have over 25 years of experience in higher education, teaching, running large research projects, and managing budgets. I bring my experience and a firm commitment to balanced, fair, and considerate thinking to all that faces our town at this pivotal time.

I am eager to answer questions and hear your priorities; please feel free to contact me at evewitten berg@comcast.net.
