I was very disappointed to learn that the Bromfield School is discontinuing its long-standing relationship with the Drama Festival run by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild. The loss of opportunity to compete in the Drama Festival is tragic. I strongly urge the leadership of the Bromfield School to reconsider.
I make my living in the entertainment industry today. It is an industry that accounts for roughly $500 billion of U.S. goods and services each year. I graduated from the Bromfield School in 1978. Chris Van Dusen, Leslie Moore, and I were the very first students chosen to represent the Bromfield School at the Drama Festival. We were cast in the play “A Lovely Afternoon,” directed by then-new faculty member Mr. Michael McGarty. It’s worth noting that the Drama Club rallied together in part as a response to the loss of former faculty advisor Mr. Richard Cox, who was killed in a fatal car accident just days after the start of the school year.
Today, 35 years after graduating from the Bromfield School, I live in Los Angeles, actively work in film and television as an Art Director, and am a member of the Art Directors Guild. Allow me to name drop (something I very rarely do). Recent screen credits include: “Real Husbands of Hollywood” starring Kevin Hart, “Surviving Jack” with Chris Meloni and Rachael Harris, “Cougar Town” with Courteney Cox, “Scrubs” with Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes (9 great years!). I’ve worked on awards shows (Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards), game shows (MTV’s Remote Control), comedy specials (Colin Quinn, Ben Stiller, Denis Leary, Adam Sandler, etc.), commercials (Swatch, IBM, Pepsi, etc.), pilots, independent feature films, network television shows, plus many other related industry products. My career path began at the Bromfield School with the Drama Club participating in the Drama Festival. Thank you for 35 great years. Now give another kid a chance.
