Thanks to those who made Harvard’s cherished Fourth of July such a success

July 12, 2013

There is no doubt that the Fourth of July is an important holiday in America, but it is also arguably the most cherished holiday in Harvard. There is something so precious about how our community comes together for two days to celebrate our incredible country and the heroes who made it so. There is no technology involved; it’s just good, old-fashioned fun. This magnificent event would not be possible without the contributions of many individuals and organizations, and we have several to thank for their generosity.

To the wonderful staff at the Fruitlands Museum, thank you for hosting the fireworks again this year. We think it’s safe to say that it was a smashing success. To the Harvard Lions Club, we appreciate and thank you for your logistical and food service expertise. Thank you to the DPW, police and fire departments, and the EMTs for your help and guidance. Thank you to Roche Bros. for the generous donation of pies and eggs for our field events. Thank you to the individuals who volunteered to sell t-shirts, park cars, run field events, and participate in the parade. We would not be able to run this event without all of you. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event financially with the purchase of a t-shirt or parking fee. All funds raised are for the benefit of the celebration.

And most importantly, thank you to the Fourth of July Committee members who gave up countless hours of time and energy to carry on the Harvard Fourth of July tradition that Arline and Gene Marteney began for the benefit of all of our families. It is a tradition that we hope continues for many more years. However, it cannot be so without more committee members. Please consider volunteering your time to the Fourth of July Committee. Fourth of July 2014 needs you!

Happy Fourth of July! We hope you enjoyed the event.

Amy Stoller and Sandra Kimball
Fourth of July Committee Co-Chairs
